I am sure lot of us has had an experience where you thought you sent a Facebook friend request to your long lost friend but it went to some one else. It is even more worse if the person did not ignore your friend request immediately and keeps sitting on it. In the mean while, Facebook starts streaming their life in your newsfeed adding to your misery. I have done it many times.
I was using a round about way of canceling my friend request. The idea was to go to the person’s Facebook profile page (to whom you wrongly sent the request) and then block the person using the links at the bottom. You can , optionally, can unblock the person in case you do not want to preclude the possibility that the two of you might become friends in the future. I hated this procedure.
I recently found a more straight forward way to cancel the Facebook friend request but was surprised to find that most web pages in Google search result did not give it. So here is the procedure :
Steps to Cancel Facebook Friend Request
1. Go to facebook.com
2. Click on the "Account" menu and select "Edit Friends" menu item.
3. Go to the lists at the left hand side and select the "Friends" list.
4. Search for the person you incorrectly sent the request.
5. Click on the delete icon near their name. It will ask if you want to cancel the request you sent. Press "Remove" .
Now the friend request sent to the other person will be cancelled.
Hope you will be more careful the next time you send a facebook request 🙂
