A new version of Chrome Nanny (0.98) is released today. The following are the highlights :
1. Chrome Nanny got the first external patch 🙂 The patch was from Hannes Hofmann who added a leechblockish page to Chrome Nanny. I liked it so much that I made it the default for new installations. Thanks Hannes !
2. There is now an option to hide the blocked sites. This was one of the popular requests and it is finally done. A new field “Show blocked URLs in Popup” is added which when set to no will not show the blocked URLs when Chrome Nanny icon is clicked.
3. Chrome Nanny now allows redirect to about:* pages. So this means you can set redirect to about:blank and other pages.
4. Other minor UI tweaks : changing display of hours in popup, fixed jquery UI arrow issue in the calendar at statistics tab.

Hello,
I have switched to Chromium yesterday (dev build 7.0.517) and I searching a plugin similar to Leech Block on Firefox.
Your extension seems to be exactly what I need, but I have a bug with it. Each websites are directly blocked, even if the time is not in the period set !
Where I can report the bug please ?
Thanks a lots for your time !
hello Guillaume,
I am sorry that you are facing issue with Chrome Nanny. Can you tell me additional details so that I can debug it ? For eg : the list of websites you have blocked will be helpful – for eg you can take a snapshot of the screen and email it to me. I would also need details about the general options. You can take a look at the faq at https://saravananthirumuruganathan.wordpress.com/2010/05/05/instructions-for-chrome-nanny-a-leech-block-like-extension-for-chrome/ for additional discussion.
Nice extension! Where is it getting it’s time from? It’s now past 17:00 but my sites are still getting blocked, maybe there’s some setting I’ve missed?
Hi,
It gets the time from browser . The block status is updated every minute so please give it a minute after block ended before checking again. If it is still not working fine please ping back and I will check it again.
Just trying your app for the first time, and I clicked the icon, and it just shows a status page. I couldn’t see anywhere how to actually set the settings to start blocking sites. I finally clued in after 5 minutes that I had to right click… but why? No other button in Chrome requires this. I would appreciate it, and your app would be more warmly welcomed by others, if it following similar UI as the rest of Chrome.
Thanks for this app btw, I am going to start using it now, and I’ll report back.

Ok so it looks like the translate add-on responds in the same way, so I was wrong. But the notable difference is that the translate app uses the left click to make things happen, as does the rest of chrome, so your app should do the same — so I was right about that.
Still testing…

Chrome Nanny stopped working correctly a few days ago.
I have 2 block sets.
“.*” from 1130-1130,1630-1630, Monday through Friday (kicks me to stop goofing off and start working)
and “facebook\.com,livejournal\.com,seesmic\.com,youtube\.com,twitter\.com” from 1130-1330,1630-1830, Monday through Friday.
Max time for each is 0 minutes every hour.
The first block set works fine; everything not on my whitelist gets blocked. The second set was working until Friday, when I change the hours briefly to 1130-1230,1630-1830. (I had finished my tasks early that day). Now, the second set doesn’t block anything.
@Marphod,
I tried your settings and it seems to work fine. Is it still an issue ? Can you send a snapshot of your settings page ? I will take a look at it once I get them !
i want to block some websites for ever .my blocked websites are blocked only for the lockdown period.i have given 0 minute per hours and all days
Harry,
Apologies for the delayed reply. To block some sites all the time, enter the block time as 0000-2359 and apply it on Mo-Sunday.
